Steve’s desire in my book Monster
can be a lot of things I think. One desire he has is to be proven innocent and be
let back into the real world. Another want he might want is for Bobo his friend
to be put in jail for rest of his life because Bobo is the one who got in the
fight and shot the dude there on trial for. The themes that are beginning to
appear are desire to escape because he wants to escape realty because he can’t believe
what is going on in his life. Another theme that is beginning to appear is
facing reality for his life and everything that is happening to him in jail and
at the trial. My book is structured like a screen play or a movie and Steve is
the director of the movie. Also parts of the book there is text shaped like
someone like Steve has written in a journal about his time in jail. I think the
author did this to show Steve’s passion for film and writing.

Summer Reading Project Entry #1
For my Summer Reading Project I am
read Monster written by Walter Dean Meyers. The main character in Monster is
Steve Harmon an 18 your old kid on trial for murder. The two main places that this book takes
place in is a courtroom and a Jail where Steve is held during his trial. The
conflict in this novel is Steve trying to prove he is innocent. Also he is
trying to cope with the idea that he might be in jail for the rest of his life.
I have some predictions for the rest of the book. One of my predictions is I think
Steve will be found guilty of the murder and will spend the rest of his life in
jail. A connection I made with this book is to the show law & order and the
episode where they found a kid guilty of murder and in this episode the kid was
going through the same thing Steve is going through. I can make connections to music
from 50 cent and some other hip hop artists that rap about murder and jail and
how bad it is to be in those situations.
