Summer Reading Part #4

I chose this novel because it was written by Walter Dean Myers. I have read many books written by him and I have enjoyed every single one of them, I might even be obsessed with his books. What drew my attention to this novel was it was written by my favorite author Walter Dean Myers and I haven't read this book by him yet. I haven't  had mush personal connections with this book other than at the end of the novel Steve's parents split up after he was plead innocent, and my parents split up so i made a connection there. I would recommend this book to people who are going through a tough time in there life like parents splitting up or losing someone because Steve teaches you how to over come tough obsticals and move on with your life and not staying in the dark place you are or were in. This is probably my favorite book that teaches life lessons you will use the rest of your life.

Summer Reading Post #3

"The best time to cry is at night, when the lights are out and someone is being beaten up and screaming for help. That way even if you sniffle a little they wont hear you (Myers 1)." This is the very beginning of the novel Monster. This is very hooking because you the reader is wondering why the narrator is saying the best time to cry is at night and therefore i think the reader will get hooked by this quote.

Summer Reading Project Entry #2

Steve’s desire in my book Monster can be a lot of things I think. One desire he has is to be proven innocent and be let back into the real world. Another want he might want is for Bobo his friend to be put in jail for rest of his life because Bobo is the one who got in the fight and shot the dude there on trial for. The themes that are beginning to appear are desire to escape because he wants to escape realty because he can’t believe what is going on in his life. Another theme that is beginning to appear is facing reality for his life and everything that is happening to him in jail and at the trial. My book is structured like a screen play or a movie and Steve is the director of the movie. Also parts of the book there is text shaped like someone like Steve has written in a journal about his time in jail. I think the author did this to show Steve’s passion for film and writing.

Summer Reading Project Entry #1

For my Summer Reading Project I am read Monster written by Walter Dean Meyers. The main character in Monster is Steve Harmon an 18 your old kid on trial for murder.  The two main places that this book takes place in is a courtroom and a Jail where Steve is held during his trial. The conflict in this novel is Steve trying to prove he is innocent. Also he is trying to cope with the idea that he might be in jail for the rest of his life. I have some predictions for the rest of the book. One of my predictions is I think Steve will be found guilty of the murder and will spend the rest of his life in jail. A connection I made with this book is to the show law & order and the episode where they found a kid guilty of murder and in this episode the kid was going through the same thing Steve is going through. I can make connections to music from 50 cent and some other hip hop artists that rap about murder and jail and how bad it is to be in those situations.

Final Blogger Reflection

1   The paragraph above I have chosen because it best shows my writing voice out of the blogs I have written this trimester. Some of the words or phrases that shows my writers voice are love, wonderful, “I will love and be grateful”, “because I really love books”. These words or phrases show my personality in my writing well. I really love to read books on my free time so it tells you that I really love books. Also I use casual diction like wonderful and grateful this shows my personality because I use those words in the real world. I directly put my every day words on the paper and that is voice.

2    In my passage I used a lot of diction but not much syntax but I still have some. Some syntax that I have in my writing is the sentence length; I have the same length of sentences all through my blog post. They length of the sentences range from 9 to 15 words per sentence. “I am nearing the end of your wonderful story called the Ender's Game” this sentence is 9 words. “Back stories always are very good because it tell you how there life is” this sentence is 14 words. One diction technique I used a lot was low/informal diction. Some examples are wonderful, grateful, hanging, and chair. All of these words you could change into more formal synonyms of the word. I did this because it is a friendly letter and the reader doesn't want to be confused with words they never heard of in a friendly letter.

What I plan to read Next

The next book I will read is going to be a book with alot of action in it. I want to read a book like this because I loved the Ender's Game. I think most kids like books with action because they  don't get bored.  It was chalk full of action and suspense that fueled me to keep reading. I think that the Alex Rider series will keep me fueled to keep reading the book and the series. I all ready have read the first two books of the series. What kind of books are you reading? If you finished your book what will you read next?

My letter to Orson Scott Card

Dear Orson Scott Card,
I am nearing the end of your wonderful story called the Ender's Game. You have giving me something I will love and be grateful that I have read your book. I was hanging on the edge of my chair the whole book. Some of my thoughts about the book are why does it take place in space. Space is such a written about subject so why did you write in space. An opinion that  I have is that I think that you should have took more time to explain the back story because I really love books with interesting back stories. Back stories always are very good because it tell you how there life is.  I think you did a remarkable way in describing the setting of the space station and everything you have put in this book. I believe or thing you should write a squeal because I would really want to read that book. I hope you write another book.
                                                                                                           Sincerely, Tyler Chumney
